Keep projects on track with Independent Design Reviews

The datum point on the piping plan was off, and so too were all the piping spools. Work on-site came to a halt as the superintendent scrambled to submit RFIs, and welders stood around awaiting clarifications. Meanwhile, the project costs skyrocketed.

The building corner was over 12" from the datum point location in reality.

The Engineer-of-Record (EoR) chose the corner of the process room as the datum point; however, the building plans were not as-built, and the corner of the room was not where it showed on the plans.

Who is at fault? How is the project going to recover? Liquidated damages? Years of arbitration? No time to worry about that now, we have to get the field crews back to work!

Thankfully, our client avoided this fiasco entirely because the owner-operator was smart enough to hire us to conduct an independent design review of the project deliverables. We caught this significant discrepancy before piping fabrication and installation, and the EoR updated the piping plans.
